Art Appreciation Classes

Why is a Banana on the Wall Called Art?
Unlocking Art Through Context

Ever stood in front of a piece of art and thought, “What am I looking at?” You’re not alone. The secret to truly understanding and appreciating art—especially contemporary art—is context.

Join us for a series of relaxed, three evening thought-provoking seminars that will help you connect with art by exploring the stories behind it. These sessions focus on context as a powerful tool: understanding the artist’s background, the time and place the work was created, and the cultural, political, or personal forces that shaped it.
When you know where a piece is coming from, it suddenly speaks louder. What once seemed confusing or meaningless starts to resonate, provoke, and move you.
In these seminars, you’ll discover:
• How an artist’s personal history influences their work
• The role of cultural and historical context in shaping meaning
• How space, audience, and even you play a part in interpreting art
• Why context transforms the ordinary into the unforgettable
Perfect for both newcomers and seasoned art lovers, these sessions will shift the way you see art. No jargon. No pressure. Just fresh perspectives, lively discussion, and eye-opening insights that make art come alive.
Context isn’t just background—it’s the key.
Come learn how to see art through a richer, more meaningful lens
